YOU = SASHA FIERCE

C-O-N-F-I-D-E-N-C-E. It’s a word that can be as necessary to spell out for ourselves as R-E-S-P-E-C-T. It feels like this elusive thing that you either have or you don’t. Right? It’s easy to think, “Maybe she’s born with it? Maybe she’s just better than me?” Alright, sister, shut it down; this is where we flip the script. Sure, confidence may come more easily for some than others, but thankfully, self-assuredness is something that we can work to achieve. The trick: To see it, you have to believe it. You gotta have faith in yourself. (OK, we didn’t say it was easy.) With just a little planning, you can begin paving a path to discover a more confident you. We promise––and EBY girls don’t lie.

Plan. Prepare. Prosper.

No one feels confident when they are unprepared. It’s not rocket science. It doesn’t mean that just because Sally gave a killer presentation at work, that she is preternaturally gifted. Everyone falters in new or potentially difficult situations, and if your confidence is already tanking, then showing up unprepared is a recipe for further ego destruction. Take 10 minutes each morning to prepare for the day’s events. Know there’s a chance of being pulled into last-minute meetings at work? Collecting things from the ex? Want to try that new HIIT class but you’re terrified? This is where the emotional prep work comes in.

Dear Diary

Keep a journal. Life coach and work wiz Ashley Stahl says she writes in a journal to help her realize her thoughts, something she finds essential for awareness and growth. Podcaster and self helper Katie Dalebout relies on the practice so much, she wrote a book about it. Just take it from psychologist Carl Jung who said, “Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people.” Journaling helps us to understand our strengths so we can be confident in them. It can also reveal our weaknesses, and give us the awareness to accept them, therefore giving us confidence to deal with them. (Psst…knowledge is power.)

Say YES!

No, it doesn’t happen overnight (just like all the other good, long-term fixes). While confidence is not learned like a set of rules, it is a state of mind, and our minds are malleable! Positive thinking, practice, knowledge, and talking to others are great ways to start the journey to well-being, body acceptance, and belief in your own ability, skills, and experience. Just remember these three little words: YES. YOU. CAN.
